Dos and Don'ts of Resume



Dos; What You Should Do When You are Preparing Your Resume


1) Must not be more than two pages long
2) Be honest in all information
3) Use action verbs in past tense
4) Be consistent with font size, underlining, spacing, bullets and bolding
5) Use simple, clear language
6) Spell out word first and then abbreviate
7) Stress on accomplishments related to the job
8) Proofread at least three times
9) Write concise objective statement that must be related to the job advertisement
10) Contents of resume must be relevant to the objective statement
11) Remember; you have only about five seconds to impress the employer
12) Good quality printing please (You may get it done at Human Resource Center for free or from any public library for a few cents per page)


Don'ts; What You Must Not Do When You are Preparing Your Resume


1) Use "I" or other pronouns
2) Be too wordy
3) Exert emphasis on irrelevant experience and information
4) Use shading
5) Include personal information (e.g. martial status, age, No. of children) --- In North America, it is not allowed to collect personal info.
