Unofficial Description of Reference
In Canada you cannot get a job without a reference. There are different types of reference ;
1) Pushing Reference: This is the reference from a person, who can force employer to give you a job. For Example: Minister, Tax officer, Big boss in a bank or in an insurance company, etc.
2) Good Reference: A person, who held a good position and he or she knows you well.
3) Friendly Reference: It is from a person, who might be a friend or relative of the employer. It may also come from a good employee of the company.
4) Fill in the Blank Reference: A person, who knows you. If employer will not find anyone from above three classes, then he or she may consider this category.
